RYLA 2011-12 was held on 1st and 2nd October at the SIRD Campus, Maraimalai Nagar.
As in the recent past, the 11th standard students of the Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet were to participate in the programme. Due to a last minute hitch, we had to look for another group of students or cancel/postpone the camp.
President Prakash spoke to Rev. Fr. Maria Ashok Kennedy, Principal of St. Joseph’s High School, Pavanjur, Madhuranthagam who agreed, after some discussions, to send the sixty girls studying in 10th standard to the camp.
The camp was held as scheduled and this is a brief report.

The President, along with Rtns. Asha Marina, A G Shankar, Kumud Jhabak and Babu Seshadri met the Principal on 29th and explained in detail the benefits of RYLA camp, the contents, calibre of the speakers etc. The Principal confirmed that the school children would participate in the camp accompanied by three teachers.
The school, a Don Bosco Institution, has primary and higher secondary sections. The primary school [260 students] was started in 1959 and the high school [640] in 1988. Students of all communities and religions, living in the nearby villages attend this school.
The SIRD campus at Maraimalai Nagar is well-known training institution with good boarding and lodging facilities and well laid out, air-conditioned conference halls. Away from the hustle and bustle of NH 45, it is a green haven of learning - a good break for the children and adults alike.
