We launched our golden jubilee celebrations with a “Take-Off Nite” on Tuesday, 4th August 2009.

The activities for the year include a community service projects, a fund-raiser and the launch of a coffee table book on the history of the Club.

Past RI President Rtn. Wilfrid Wilkinson, chief guest at the function, said the global Rotary movement had a great role to play in promoting peace and conflict resolution apart from its core social uplift mission. While working closely with Rotary International and getting to interact with fellow Rotarians, he had experienced the great power of the organisation in bringing together people from all over the world, he said.

President Rtn. P. Bowmick said the Club was dedicated to continuing its tradition of community projects ranging from establishing a stroke clinic for the poor and adoption of villages to distributing uniforms for children and providing vocational training to youth.
Rtn. R. V. Rajan, chairman, golden jubilee committee, said the Rotary Club of Madras South planned to carry out 50 community service projects to commemorate its golden jubilee and to host a musical evening as fund-raiser in November.

Rtn. W. Anand, District Governor of Rotary 3230, said it was remarkable for the Rotary Club to keep growing stronger as it became older at a time when many other clubs were withering away.
