Rotary club of Arni had set up a computer center to train economically backward girls. The center has been shut down for over a year, as the PC's had  broken down/were outdated. RCMS, along with Ford Business Service Center, arranged to have four PC's installed in the center,  reviving the computer course for the girls. The computers were donated to the RC of Arni on the installation day, 3rd July. From RCMS Rtns. Nagoji and Srikanth attended the function. More than 150 Rotarians, including DGE Subbramaniam, and  dignitaries from Arni attended the function.

The first medical camp of this year was held on 8th August at the Seva Samajam, Pallipattu.  176 children of the home were screened by the Doctors, led by Dr. Sridhar, and support-help of Kanchi Sankara Trust, assisted by Anns Nirmala Madhu and Sita Laxminarayana.

We will attend to the follow-up treatment of the children, in consultation with the doctors of the Trust.

The first Vocational Service Project - Project Selvi - was inaugurated by District Governor Rtn. A.S.Venkatesh on the 7th August - a programme to develop tailoring skills of young girls. A few garment export companies have agreed to provide employment to the girls on successful completion of the three-month course. The first course is being held for 25 under-privileged girls, in association with P. Obul Reddy Vocational training Institute, Andhra Mahila Sabha.

Community Service

-       Setup the long term project – Saradambal Neelamegam Rotary Club of Madras South Medical Centre at Nerkundram in March 2008. ECG and X Ray machine installed. Ultrasound machine is expected to arrive.  Project cost: Rs. 25 Lakhs. Expected to benefit a large number of under privileged people in the area.

-       Computers donation to other clubs in the District – about 30 computers were donated Rotary club of Polur, Arcot, Chetpet, Arni Fort, Eagle Town, Vandawasi ,Kalvai, Cheyyar          

-       Conducted about 5 medical camps for various segments of the population

-       Diwali celebrations at CHES with Aids affected children at Valasarawakkam. Gave new clothes to 100 inmates, gave sweets and provided 2 hour entertainment.

-       Blood donation of 125 units through VHS

-       Participated in district workshop on water management

 

Fund Raising:

-       organized Rotafest – a 2 day carnival and exhibition at Rani Meiyammai Hall in Jan and raised Rs. 7 Lakhs for our project

-       Received donation of Rs.12.5 Lakhs of the 25 lakh commitment for our medical centre

 

Youth Service:

-       Conducted 2 day residential RLYA for Saidapet Corporation School Girls at SIRD Campus at Maraimalai Nagar. 12 high quality sessions with top notch speakers / trainers was organized.  Total cost 75000/-

-       All 3 Rotaract clubs were installation and worked together

-       All 4 Interact clubs were installed and worked together

-       Teachers of our interact school participated in Vriskha program organized  by RC Ambattur

-       Teachers of our interact school participated in the Green schools training program

 

Vocational Service:

-       Tailoring classes for 25 girls / women through Andhra Mahila Sabha – at a cost of Rs.50000/-

-       Car driving courses for women for 18 girls through Andhra Mahila Sabha at a cost of Rs.36,000/-

 

Club service:

-       Weekly meetings were excellent speakers

-       4 Joint meetings were held with RC Gummudipoondi, KK Nagar and MCC, NEWS – North, East, South, West. with Adyar, with Adyar and Ambattur

-       Bulletin

o    21 issues of Southerner of very high quality in content has been released and 3 more will be released

-       Board meetings – 11 completed and 1 more scheduled next month

 

Family Participation:

-       Firesides -  a record of 21 firesides have been held and 24 will be completed for the year.

-       Monthly full fledged family participation events were conducted.

o    July – Mexican nite at Rtn. Veerappan house

o    Aug – Madras day celebration at Boat Club

o    Sep – Outstation fellowship to Mysore – 62 persons

o    Oct – Past President nite – Sherbet with Sriram

o    Nov – Governor visit

o    Dec – Down the melody lane at TAG Centre

o    Jan – Tambola nite at Rtn. Falors home

o    Feb – Get together with Past members of the club

o    Mar – Buddies nite at MRC
